Candlestick anatomy chart used in Lesson One of the Foundations track

What this lesson covers

Read the four numbers in a wick

Every candle only ever records an open, a high, a low and a close. Once you can name those four points on sight, half of chart reading is already done.

Body versus wick tells you who won

A long body means one side controlled the period. Long wicks with a small body mean the price was pushed and then rejected — a fight, not a win.

The same candle means different things

A single bullish candle at the top of a rally reads very differently from the same candle after a long decline. Context always overrides the shape.
